About the Zoning Department

The Zoning Department provides residents and the development community with information (setbacks, parking, building height etc.) to properly plan the improvement of their properties.

The Zoning Department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Garfield Township Zoning Ordinance. These duties include the review of various permit applications and development proposals, the issuance of permits, compliance inspections, complaint investigations and land division reviews. Examples--Variance requests, sign permits, land divisions, land use permits, and site plan review of "by right" uses are processed by the Zoning Department.

Grand Traverse Commons Redevelopment District Zoning Ordinance

The City of Traverse City and Garfield Township Joint Planning Commission (JPC) administers a Master Plan and Zoning Ordinance for the Grand Traverse Commons Redevelopment District. Please find a copy of the Grand Traverse Commons Development Regulations adopted May 7, 2017.
