Boards and Commissions

The Township Board is the legislative body for Garfield Township and consists entirely of elected officials. By state statute, the seven members of the Planning Commission and five members of the Zoning Board of Appeals are appointed by the Township Supervisor with the Township Board's approval. The Parks and Recreation seven-member Commission is also appointed by the Township Board. Both the City of Traverse City/Garfield Township Joint Planning Commission and the Joint Recreational Authority consist of persons appointed by the Township and the City.
